Day 8 - 2 Jan 2008

On Day 8 we entered our last area of exploration. Today we explored 3 small watercourses. The first one was disappointing as it contained neither canyon nor particularly memorable creek. The second looked like being similar to the first for a while until finally it constricted into a small but deep canyon. We had no prior knowledge of the existence of this canyon so it felt like we were making a new canyon discovery.

In the afternoon we descended another creek tributary and this contained a small canyon with 2 abseils. However we found evidence that this canyon had been done before.

Here is the deep but short canyon that we found in the second tributary that we explored today. We called this canyon "Damper Canyon".

The final tributary that we explored today had a small canyon in it with two abseils. We had no previous knowledge of this canyon but we found evidence that it had been done before.

At the end of Day 8 we camped in a leafy ferny flat beside a gentle stream. This made a change from the ridgetop camping that we had been doing every night of the trip apart from the first night.
